    The securitization of the real estate market in Korea : future impacts to the Korean real estate market

    Thesis (S.M.)--Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Dept. of Urban Studies and Planning, 1999.Includes bibliographical references (leaves 67-68).The real estate policy of the Korean government had until recently only focused on restraining speculative investment in the real estate market, which was the prevalent consensus in the country in the 1970's and the 1980's. These strict measures in the real estate market have been a serious obstacle to the government, in their active efforts to gain foreign capital in order to overcome the economic crisis since the International Monetary Fund $55 billion bailout to the Korean government. During the Asian crisis, both large institutional companies and small businesses went bankrupt due to financial distress caused by over-leverage. Consequently, the government has changed the paradigm of real estate policies on the basis of a free market principle, and has completely opened the real estate market to foreign investors in order to solve some of the current financial problems and to provide a momentum to redevelop the Korean economy. As part of the ongoing effort to stabilize the Korea economy, securitization in the real estate market is inevitable. In this thesis, the securitization efforts undertaken by the government will be examined to infer their future impacts on the real estate market of Korea. With the first issuance of asset backed-securities (ABS) by the Korea Asset Management Corporation (KAMCO), a resolution trust formed by the Korean government to liquidate non-performing loans, the outlook of the Korean economy is positive yet with a degree of uncertainty.     Scaling laws for the photo-ionisation cross section of two-electron atoms

    The cross sections for single-electron photo-ionisation in two-electron atoms show fluctuations which decrease in amplitude when approaching the double-ionisation threshold. Based on semiclassical closed orbit theory, we show that the algebraic decay of the fluctuations can be characterised in terms of a threshold law σEμ\sigma \propto |E|^{\mu} as E0E \to 0_- with exponent μ\mu obtained as a combination of stability exponents of the triple-collision singularity. It differs from Wannier's exponent dominating double ionisation processes. The details of the fluctuations are linked to a set of infinitely unstable classical orbits starting and ending in the non-regularisable triple collision. The findings are compared with quantum calculations for a model system, namely collinear helium.Comment: 4 pages, 1 figur

    Climate change has become one of the most important global agenda, and nations worldwide are taking actions to resolve the issue and contribute to the new climate change regime. In the case of South Korea, the new goal of reducing greenhouse gas emission to 37% below BAU(Business-As- Usual) was set. As a means to achieve this goal, the Korean government is actively investing in highly effective greenhouse reduction technologies such as solar cell, fuel cell, bioenergy, secondary battery, power IT, and CCS(Carbon Capture and Storage). This paper investigates the overall trend of CCS research by examining international CCS research collaboration characteristics through network analysis of SCI papers; collaboration network of Korea is analyzed in further detail. Such analysis helps understand the status of international research in the field of CCS, especially that of Korea

    Total photoionization cross section of planar helium: scaling laws and collision orbits

    The total photoionization cross section of planar helium has been calculated up to the single ionization threshold I22 of triple P states. The cross section shows chaotic fluctuations as the energy E approaches the double ionization threshold E=0. By analyzing the fluctuating part of the cross section, we show that its amplitude decreases as ∣E∣ mu for E-> 0- as predicted in Byunet al(2007 Phys. Rev. Lett., 98, 113001). The Fourier transform of the fluctuating part reveals peaks at the classical actions of closed triple collision orbits. Furthermore, the relative height of the peaks is consistent with the semiclassical predictions. Our findings underline that the fluctuating part of the photoionization cross section can be described by classical triple collision orbits in the semiclassical limit. These orbits all lie in the collinear eZe subspace, demonstrating that the fluctuations are dominated by the dynamics of this low dimensional phase space

    Integration between WSNs and Internet based on Address Internetworking for Web Services

    There has been an increasing interest in wireless sensor networks as a new technology to realize ubiquitous computing, and demands for internetworking technology between the wireless sensor networks and the Internet which is based on IP address. For this purpose, this paper proposes and implements the internetworking scheme which assigns IP addresses to the sensor nodes and internetworks based on the gateway-based integration for internetworking between the wireless sensor networks and the Internet. That is, the proposed scheme makes the access to the wireless sensor networks be serviced as like the Web service with internetworking Internet IP address and ZigBee address which is allocated to the sensor node in wireless sensor networks. For validating the proposed scheme, we made experiments using Berkeley TinyOS, Mica Motes, dual protocol stack based on ZigBee and IP, and showed the service result using browser (IE) and IPv6 address based on DNS

    Effective data parallel computing on multicore processors

    The rise of chip multiprocessing or the integration of multiple general purpose processing cores on a single chip (multicores), has impacted all computing platforms including high performance, servers, desktops, mobile, and embedded processors. Programmers can no longer expect continued increases in software performance without developing parallel, memory hierarchy friendly software that can effectively exploit the chip level multiprocessing paradigm of multicores. The goal of this dissertation is to demonstrate a design process for data parallel problems that starts with a sequential algorithm and ends with a high performance implementation on a multicore platform. Our design process combines theoretical algorithm analysis with practical optimization techniques. Our target multicores are quad-core processors from Intel and the eight-SPE IBM Cell B.E. Target applications include Matrix Multiplications (MM), Finite Difference Time Domain (FDTD), LU Decomposition (LUD), and Power Flow Solver based on Gauss-Seidel (PFS-GS) algorithms. These applications are popular computation methods in science and engineering problems and are characterized by unit-stride (MM, LUD, and PFS-GS) or 2-point stencil (FDTD) memory access pattern. The main contributions of this dissertation include a cache- and space-efficient algorithm model, integrated data pre-fetching and caching strategies, and in-core optimization techniques. Our multicore efficient implementations of the above described applications outperform nai¨ve parallel implementations by at least 2x and scales well with problem size and with the number of processing cores

    Solitary Fibrous Tumor of the Pancreas: Imaging Findings

    We report here a case of a pathologically proven solitary fibrous tumor of the pancreas. A 54-year-old man was referred to our hospital for further evaluation of a pancreatic mass that was found incidentally. CT, MR imaging, and endoscopic ultrasonography showed a well-defined, enhancing mass with cystic portions of the pancreas body. MR cholangiopancreatography showed no pancreatic duct dilatation. A solitary fibrous tumor of the pancreas is a very rare lesion
